Still Not Asking For It
Using about 1,000 condoms, this handmade and hand sewn gown relates to an important message about consent. No matter what someone is wearing, they are never "asking for it."
After my own assault, I couldn't bear to wear or even touch the clothes I wore from that night. I tucked them away in the back of my drawer, assuming they would never see the light of day again.
One day, I decided to take out the shirt I wore from that night and turn it into something new, something I could wear again. I wanted to base the piece off of something beautiful to me, so I chose my mother's wedding bouquet. The funny story behind her bouquet is that it was tragically thrown out while away on her honeymoon.
This piece offered a rebirth for a piece of clothing that still lived and a revival for something that died.
